High above Bergen, Mount Fløyen is the city's beloved balcony — reached by the historic Fløibanen funicular and crowded, on a good evening, with visitors and photographers waiting for the light. This film is a timelapse shot from the top on a bitterly cold but crystal-clear spring night.
The reward for braving the cold is one of the great urban views in Norway: the whole of Bergen laid out below, its harbour, rooftops and surrounding mountains glowing as the sun goes down and the city lights begin to flicker on. The timelapse compresses that slow, spectacular transition into a few minutes — colour draining from the sky, the fjord darkening, and the famous seven-mountain city settling into night.
It's easy to see why Fløyen is such a magnet at sunset. Press play to watch the light change over Bergen, and find more of my films from Norway's places on my channel.
