Lofoten is, quite simply, one of the most beautiful places on earth to drive — a chain of islands where sharp granite peaks rise straight out of turquoise water, and white-sand beaches sit improbably beneath Arctic mountains. This long, 46-minute film captures it at the magic hour, on a summer drive from Reine to Skreda filmed at 5 AM.
Driving Lofoten at five in the morning in summer means having this extraordinary landscape almost entirely to yourself, bathed in the soft, low light of a sun that barely sets. The drive rolls past the postcard fishing village of Reine, mirror-still fjords, towering peaks and those famously clear, colourful waters — all in the hush of early morning. A practical note from the trip says a lot about how popular Lofoten has become: parking was so scarce that finding a spot the day before meant driving thirty minutes north of Reine.
This is a drive to lose yourself in. Press play, turn up the screen, and ride through Lofoten at sunrise — with more northern Norway routes waiting on my channel.
