Eidfjord, deep in the Hardanger region, is one of those villages that lives a double life. In summer it's a bustling stop on the cruise circuit, its small harbour filling with day-trippers stepping off the big ships that dock in the fjord. This short drive shows the other side of it.
Filmed at Easter, the drive finds Eidfjord quiet and unhurried, with few people about and the village more or less to itself. It's a lovely time to see the place — you get the full sweep of the setting, the fjord and the steep surrounding mountains, without the seasonal crowds, and a truer sense of what daily life is like here the rest of the year. Eidfjord is also the gateway to the wider Hardangervidda plateau and the mighty Vøringsfossen waterfall nearby, so it's well worth knowing.
The calm season has its own quiet appeal. Press play for the roadside views of Eidfjord, and find more of my fjord drives on my channel.
