This drive takes you into the high inland country of southern Norway, in the Telemark region near the town of Rjukan. It's a part of the country with a remarkable history layered over its quiet beauty — Rjukan is famous as the site of the wartime heavy water plant, target of one of the most daring sabotage operations of the Second World War.
The route runs from Brattås toward Frøystul, climbing through the kind of landscape that defines inland Norway: open mountainsides, dark water, scattered cabins and the big, calm skies of the high country. It feels remote and unhurried, a world away from the busy coastal fjords, and the changing scenery keeps the drive quietly absorbing from start to finish.
If you like your Norway with history and solitude rather than crowds, this is your kind of road. Press play to ride along through Telemark, and find more of my inland and mountain drives on my channel.
