The Sognefjord is the king of Norwegian fjords — the longest and deepest in the country, reaching more than 200 kilometres inland from the coast. This 4K drive runs along one of its gentler shores, from Hella to Leikanger, and it's a lovely, unhurried introduction to fjord country.
The road hugs the fjord the whole way, with the broad blue expanse of the Sognefjord on one side and steep green slopes rising on the other. Leikanger, the destination, is known for its mild microclimate and even its fruit orchards — proof of how sheltered and surprisingly temperate these inner-fjord communities can be. At a little over ten minutes, it's a short, easy drive, but it packs in the kind of scenery people travel a long way to see.
This is the calm, postcard side of fjord Norway. Press play to ride along the Sognefjord, and explore more of my western Norway drives on my channel.
