This drive heads up into one of the most dramatic high-mountain corridors in southern Norway, around Haukeli and Røldal, where the E134 carries you over the roof of the country. It was filmed in summer — and yet, as the footage shows, the peaks are still streaked with snow and the temperature struggles to climb much above ten degrees.
That contrast is what makes high Norway so special. Down in the valleys it may be warm, but up here on the mountain plateau the air stays cold, the snow lingers year-round in the hollows, and the landscape turns vast and elemental: bare rock, alpine lakes, long tunnels and views that stretch for miles. It's epic in the truest sense — wild, open and a little humbling from behind the wheel.
If you want to feel the scale of the Norwegian mountains, this is the drive. Press play to climb into the wilderness, and find more of my mountain routes across my channel.
